It was actually quite time consuming and tedious although I am sure that if you got good at making them they would go quicker.
So what is an altered tea pot? An altered tea pot is a teapot that had been contorted in some kind of way so it isn't perfect like you would buy in a store.
Our bottom half of the teapots were thrown on the wheel. Same with our lids and our spouts.
the top of our teapots are hand built. I funked mine up by adding a bark texture where the rest of the class left the top half texture less. I also added bark texture to the collar (what the lid is sitting on).

When you add the top slab of clay to your already wheel thrown base, you contort your pot in whatever way you want.
I decided to make mine have nobs to go with the tree theme and also pushed in a side.

These teapots also are tricky also you cut the bottom off the hand thrown pot and then reinstall a slab base... so you can make the pot into an angle. I cut my bottom off on a steep angle so the teapot naturally sits on its back end with the front higher.
It was such a great class that I am very excited to make more. However sadly I am moving to Vancouver in 4 weeks and wont have enough time to make one from beginning to end.
I also added some hand cut leaves to my pot as an after thought. I am so happy that I did! My teapot has a total different look then the others in the class.

I am so proud of this teapot and can't wait to use it. I hope that it will be dry this week so I can bisque fire and then glaze it.
I am so scared that I will wreck my beautiful teapot with my lack of glazing skills. I even dreamt that I ruined it. Crossing my fingers that everything works out.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!! You should continue making them!! I think there are lots of people who would want one!
