A Sad "Tail"

One of my Ravelry friends has just lost her 15.5 year old dachshund. I was so sad to hear about this and it made me think about Lola.
10 reasons why I Love Lola

1) She is small enough to sit on my lap while I knit
2) She loves it when I come home from work, she makes a huge fuss.
3) Lola makes everything seem ok when it isn't.
4) She loves EVERYONE.
5) Lola is a big dog in a little dog body
6) She loves sushi as much as Drew and I
7) She is the most loyal dog on earth
8) Lola loves to sleep in odd places and makes us hunt for her.
9) Lola loves the outdoors.
10) She loves me as much as I love her

I couldn't imagine not having Lola as our dog.
I remember when I went to look at dogs with my friend Steph. She was keen on getting a Dachshund and I thought they were the ugliest dog on earth. I tried to talk her into getting some cute rollypolly bull dog but she wouldn't get it out of her head that she needed a dachshund.
When I went with her to look at a couple of litters this breeder had I fell head over heals. Steph chose a puppy that night and I went home to Drew with the hopes that he would say yes to having a puppy too. He said no because we had to re home our last horrible dog muffy. But I twisted his arm to come and take a look at these puppies and to meet the most amazing breeder. When he got to the breeders home and was greeted by a stampede of little legged freaky dogs he couldn't say no... We bought Lola that day. She was the runt, and a little odd looking as she was the only long haired pup in the litter. She was quiet and didn't need the attention the others did. She didn't bark but instead wagged her little tail.
When we got Lola home we set her pen up beside our bed. She had a kennel and chew toys and all sorts of fun things. When we went to bed we said goodnight to Lola. She didn't bark or whine that night. But instead waited until Drew and I were fast asleep and then climbed up her wire pen and into our bed. When Drew woke up in the morning he pushed me awake and whispered for me to look between our pillows. There was Lola, on her back with her head on our pillows snuggled under the covers with her little legs poking over the covers. She looked like a little baby human. Every night after that she snook into our bed and slept with us.
