My parents have bought a large chunk of land in the woods that include 3 cabins on the property and various other sheds and out buildings. The cabins are at Wells Gray Park near Clearwater.
The lucky thing is that there just happens to be 3 of us..... Mom and dad, Greg (and someday wife?), and Drew and myself....
Mom and dad have claimed the main cabin (Cabin A) for themselves. Its a beautiful place! It has beautiful peaked ceilings with a nice big loft. It is quite large at about 700 square feet.. Its very rustic, with a wood stove for both warmth and for cooking. However there does seem to be electricity hooked to the main cabin. It does have a full washroom, although the plumbing doesn't work. The washroom is where the mice like to hang out. But soon enough we will have the main cabin winterized and there will be no more mice.
Greg (brother) and I have each claimed a cabin as well. There was no fight over who got what one.
Greg claimed a little tiny cabin. It has one floor and one room, like a bachelor suite. It was the cabin the last owner lived in. Meaning that it is fairly well taken care of, although I believe it needs a new wood stove.
Neither Greg or I have been in this cabin, as the doors have been locked with a key we don't have.
The cabin that I claimed is the nicest of them all. Although it will cost Drew and I a bit of money to start.
The cabin I claimed is unfinished. It is pretty much 4 walls and a roof. The walls don't connect to the roof however and bats have moved into the peak of the ceiling.
My little cabin is about 500 square feet and also has a loft. It is quite a bit further away from the other cabins and also has its own outhouse. Because it is so far from the well, it wont ever have plumbing. But I'm crossing my fingers for electricity. I would really like to have a fridge in the cabin so we don't have to rely on buying ice for a cooler.
It has some nice windows in it, however it seems like it needs more as it is so dark out in the woods. There is a long list of things we have to do. Like insulation, ceiling, chinking holes, drywall or wood slats (which ever is cheapest) and get a wood stove and a chimney.
This will be a slow process and we hope to have it all done by next fall or winter. So we can spend Christmas in the cabin. (We hope to spend Christmas in the main cabin this winter with my parents.)
Drew and I are going out tomorrow to measure the walls of our little cabin.
Also even though we have all claimed a cabin, we will also share them all. If we have guests we will be able to use all the other cabins. We all just took on the projects of different cabins.. which is very cool.
The property backs onto crown land which is perfect for hiking. And the crown land backs onto the trophy mountains. Which is a very high mountain that is alpine at the top.. So beautiful in the summer for hiking, wildlife watching, backpacking, and frolicking threw amazing alpine flowers.
In the winter we will be able to cross country ski and snow shoe!
This is mom and dads Cabin A.
