Well I'm writing this at work because I can't wait to get the news out. I start the welding program November 15th at 7am!!!
After so many years of thinking I am going to be a nurse and after this year of working non stop helping everyone but myself, mentally and physically burning out, putting Drew and myself second to work, and deciding that nursing isn't something I am going to pursue. I decided to go a completely different rout. I have decided to go into a trade.
Not just any trade, but a trade that needs precision, accountability, a steady hand, quick judgement, and a lot of strength. I chose welding.
Now I have gotten a fair bit of questioning from both sides of the family. Why would I change my mind in such a drastic way?
Well We have huge plans for our future. We want certain things and a different quality of life then we have now. Nursing wouldn't bring us any closer to our dreams for a long, long time. I see my nursing friends struggle with loan payments on top of normal day to day spending ie: mortgage/rent and bills and they are always doing a balancing act. I'm going to be 30 in a few short months. By the time I am done nursing I will be 34 with 10 years of student debt bringing me to 44 before being able to live happily debt free before owning a home and opening our restaurant.
Welding is a fast track. It is something that I will be very good at. I enjoy hard work and I believe that I will enjoy the things that come with hard work. I will be done all three modules by the age of 32. I will work for full wage between courses and will be able to go threw school virtually debt free (except for the first module).
Drew and I will be able to to travel to all areas of Canada with my work or if we want we can travel abroad! Welding is dynamic and has hundreds of different jobs and skill sets and I will easily find a job suited to me. Welding has also become a very coveted art. People love welded sculptures and I can see my creativity soar with this new skill.
I will be a pioneer for other women that want to weld. As of this date only 4% of welders are females. Prospecting Employers are always looking for female welders as women have a steadier hand and are more detail oriented. I will never struggle for work.
The wages are outrageous. We will never go without anything again. Never have to decide what bills to pay first and worry about missing out on fun things with family and friends. We wont have to struggle to make ends meet. We will get to worry about fun things like how we are going to spend our vacation, where we want to go for dinner, what Hummer to take to town. HAHA just joking about the Hummer. Making a trip to Manitoba wont be the end of the earth for us.
Drew and I will be able to retire at an age where we can still enjoy life, own our shop and live on our little farm -years before we could if I went into nursing.
I know that many people can't see why I would want to do such a thing. I really hope that I have opened your eyes to how we see it. And if this doesn't work out? Well then I have one more incredible skill that not a lot of women have. And I can make beautiful art for all of you!
I hope you guys share my enthusiasm as I am ecstatic for our future!
I'm SOOOO proud of you angel pie! You're amazing and I have 100% faith that you will do well in this.
