Sunset at night, Sailors delight

Wow, things have been crazy and are getting crazier by the day.
Where to start?

May 1st Drew moved to Vancouver with me! We have an amazing little apartment in Kitsilano. The smallest that we have lived in. But it's quaint, clean, and pet friendly. It has a funky smell. It drives me nuts and smells like old. Drew thinks it smells like perfume.

Our building was built in the 40's and has a ton of windows. We have been furnishing it with free stuff from back alleys and craigslist. We have been very lucky and have found everything we need including a dining table, chairs, desk (for the tv), love seat, laps, dish rack, and garbage cans. Ally picking has quickly become a favorite time killer.

Kitsilano is a wealthy neighborhood that isn't ramped with bed bugs like east Vancouver. So we find really nice stuff that isn't buggy.

Drew is still looking for a full time job. He is working part time at IGA where he used to work before moving back to Kamloops. He has had a few interviews and is looking forward to starting a new job at any time.

Lately we have been having some really nice sunsets. And we are so fortunate to be only 4 blocks from the ocean! We can easily walk to the water within minutes and relax. We have met my old roommates a few times at beach to let the dogs go for a run. Duke (their dog) will swim for hours. The other day the tide was out and Duke could walk hundreds of meters into the sea. It looked strange, like he was walking on water.

I started a new job last week. I kept my other job but have cut the hours down to one shift a week or maybe two if they are desperate. My new job is working with drug addicts in the down town east side (Main and Hastings). So far I love it. Like really really really love it. It is crazy work dealing with both addictions and mental health together. A lot of my clientele come from mental institutions that have closed years ago and also a lot of native men and women that were forced into residential schools.
I will be working in two areas within the society. One being at InSite the safe injection site. Where I will observe addicts shoot up and then watch for signs of over dose. I will also be providing the clientele with clean needles, sterile water and alcohol swabs. For those of you who don't understand why I would be providing junkies with needles, it is to prevent the spread of disease as in Hep a/b and C and also HIV.
The second area that I will be working at is in the hotels. The hotels are where the addicts live. My job is to man the desk and provide safety to the residents. I am the person who allows people into the hotel and stopping barred or bad people from coming in, file missing persons reports, checking to see if everyone is alive, and clean rooms when someone goes to jail or moves out.

This may be my career! I am so excited to be doing this work. It is full time and I get to work with other people with my mind set and left wing beliefs. There is room for growth, and since I work nights, I can go to school!

I can't wait to get our scooter up to Vancouver. It is still in Kamloops, however mom and dad are coming for a visit this weekend and will be bringing it up with them! Maybe I can scoot to work and not have to take the bus all the time. Although I have found a new love for the bus. It is a really great place to people watch.

Smudge seems to have settled into city life. Lola is a city girl, but Smudge has never had to do his business on cement before now. He could care less and that makes it so much easier on us!

Anyhoo,
that's it

  1. It's good to see you. I'm glad you are adjusting to city life. I don't like to do my business on cement either!
